SA Engineering College was established in the year 1998-’99 by Dharma Naidu Educational & Charitable Trust in accordance with the general policy of the Govt. of Tamil Nadu. It is an autonomous college. The campus covers 42 acres and has a total built area of 2.25 lakh square feet, which comprises classrooms, drawing halls, labs and other facilities. The college has received ISO certification. The NBA has given the institute its seal of approval. The NAAC has accredited the college with an "A" grade. The college is affiliated with Anna University, Chennai.

For engineering stream courses, admissions are done by means of proper counselling process as per the guidelines of the governing body.Students who have passed 10+2 from a recognised Board are eligible to apply for UG level programs.For M.Tech program, candidates who have completed BE or B.Tech course in relevant discipline with minimum 50% marks are eligible to apply for admission. For admissions in B.E course, a candidate is required to qualify TNEA exam followed by counselling process.For PG courses M.E, MBA and MCA, admissions are made on the basis of score in TANCET examination
